** 24-Apr-2022 World View: Darkest period in China in decades

I just watched a lengthy interview with China analyst Junheng Li on
Bloomberg tv, where she described China as being in its darkest period
in two decades.

This is because of all the lockdowns of tens of millions of people,
especially in Shanghai. She said this is different from the Wuhan
lockdowns in 2020 because now the people know a lot more, and they
know that lockdowns don't work -- as is shown by the recent
exponential growth in Covid cases despite the lockdowns. She said
that resentment against the government has been growing.

Stories out of Shanghai show that officials have been brutal and
ruthless in pursuing Xi Jinping's "Zero Covid" policy. People are
being dragged out of their homes and forced to live in cramped
centers. Children are being forcibly separated from their parents.
Dogs and cats left behind are being ruthlessly killed.

The Shanghai lockdown has gone on for 4 weeks, into its fifth week.
Even more worrisome, the virus seems to be spreading to Beijing
(Chaoyang district of Beijing) with 21 new cases -- which isn't a lot,
but that's how the Shanghai spread started, and it violates the "zero
covid" policy.

This is relevant to something that I've been wondering about for a
while. China's last two generational crisis wars were extremely
bloody civil wars between the north and the south -- the Taiping
Rebellion (1850-64) and the Communist Revolution (1934-49). So China
is overdue for a new massive rebellion. The CCP is well aware of this
of course, so they've become very skillful in nipping "mass events" in
the bud before they can spread. However, sooner or later, that
massive rebellion must occur, and the lockdown situation may turn out
to be the trigger.

(There's an interesting comparison here. China's "zero covid" policy
has only postponed the virus problem, and China's "zero mass event"
policy may also fail in a similar fashion.)

Here's some other news:
  • China stocks have fallen sharply on Monday's open, with the
Hang Seng (Hong Kong) index down 2.5%.
  • The yuan currency has fallen the most since the 2015
    devaluation.
  • Commodity prices are falling because of decreased demand from
China. Iron ore slumped 8% in Singapore on Monday.
  • The Dow fell 851 on Friday, and Dow futures are currently down 270
points. Nikkei is down 2%. Bitcoin is down 200 points.
  • The Fed is expected to increase interest rates dramatically in the
    next few months.
  • The World Bank is predicting a "human catastrophe" food crisis,
    because of the Ukraine war.
The last point in particular is virtually certain to trigger massive
unrest in Asia and elsewhere, just as the spike in food prices
triggered the "Arab Spring" ten years ago.

As the weeks go by, it seems that the probabilities of a financial
crisis and a geopolitical crisis (regional wars) are increasing, and
becoming more and more imminent.

Isn't there a decent chance Xi could be toppled this year? He has a lot of enemies in the CCP.

** 25-Apr-2022 World View: Toppling Xi Jinping

It does seem that Xi has lost his Mandate from Heaven, so it's
certainly possible that he'll be toppled, though I haven't heard any
analysts who expect that, given the dictatorial power that he's
accumulated.

But even if Xi is toppled, that wouldn't affect any of the items in
that list of issues that I posted yesterday. If anything, a
successful anti-Xi coup would destabilize the CCP, and make a
rebellion this year more likely. If the CCP is destabilized, then Xi
or whoever is in charge will then want to try to unite the country by
declaring war on someone.

Nice photos.

But, please. Keep posting from Reddit's " Putin is da man" thread....

How many civilians have the Rusisans raped, tortured, and murdered compared to the Ukrainians? Just wondering.

Dude. It's time for your plastic cup.of vodka and bowl of borsch break in the Kremlin basement. :D
NYPost, HRW, ABC sources are “alt-right” now? The fact that you think Reddit is right-wing and your love of emojis really shows how out of touch with the culture you really are. I never denied Russia is committing war crimes and atrocities, I stated both sides were committing atrocities (I never mentioned degree). I also stated Russia is to blame for the war.
You have fallen for Russian propaganda hook, line, and sinker. Now you try to rollback on it. You posted a massive screen shot put together by the Russians which grossly exaggerated the antics of a few hundred soldiers --a rouge militia--and try to say that somehow it reflected the average Ukrainian's mentality. Yes. That what you were implying, as others have pointed out. The Anzov battalion is tiny. Even going so far as to post photos doughnuts with Anzov batt logos.

The article with the people taped to poles dated to the beginning of the war when people were breaking curfew and looting. Also, at that time, several teams from the Wagner group killed while wearing civilian clothes and actively trying to hunt down and kill President Zelensky. You are comparing photos of blown apart dead Russian soldiers (with body armor marked with 'Z' )with the crimes Bucha, where civilians were gang raped, tortured, and murdered in the hundreds (now it looks like in could be over a thousand people). In what way do the things you post show any kind of balance between Russia and Ukraine? They Russians are worse by a million miles. And now, being shown up, you back pedal and say that is not what you intended. Spare me your bullshit. That's exactly what you intended.

You and the other useful idiots on this site are not clever or intelligent. You are fools being played. I suspect you are a paid troll.

Still trying to stir up trouble over the vaccines? I thought tens of millions were supposed to be dropping dead in their living rooms by now...

Where is BP to post videos of mighty Russian soldiers' scaring off frightened America soldiers' in Syria? Ah, not here anymore because the Russian army, air force, and navy have been totally humiliated. Putin miscalculations have reduced Russia to a 4th rate power.

If it wasn't for the wrong horse, you, BP, Full Moon, and Dakardii wouldn't have a horse to back.

Guess what? Don't want to be blown apart on the road and have your dead body photographed, don't invade another country.

Ukrainians will remember who helped them in their hour of need and who didn’t. The future of Europe may pivot around it. Ukraine and Poland together may one day outweighs Germany in economic heft in Europe.

If India wants to 'play' with those countries, it takes it chance, but they should not be surprised if there are consequences. There are consequences for Germany with respect to its commitment to Russia. Caveat emptor.
The USA invades and, for all intent and purposes, annexes other countries and yet you expect others to hold and value our currency?

We really need to pull the plank out of our own eye before pointing out the splinter in the eye of another.

I rank the USA leadership up there with Putin when it comes to corruption and egoism.
