Yup, it happens.
Some of the best farmland in the local area was purchased from the county for back taxes during World War II.
The Japanese families that owned the subject farm land were in camps and unable to pay the taxes.
Many Japanese worked on building the railroads and used there savings to homestead and buy farms.
Most of them were able to keep their farms during the Great Depression because they did not borrow money and invested their money in their farms, and did not keep it in banks, or lose it in banks when the banks went bust.
They almost all lost their farms during World War II.

This just adds to the theory that history repeats itself. We are definitely in turn for a financial crisis in the US and I hope everyone here has made their emergency plans for when it happens!. I felt so bad that the girl survived one shooting to die in another though.

I've been saying for years, the herd needs to be thinned.
NO, it's not "politically correct."
NO, it's not a nice comment about our society.
NO, it's not terribly flattering for our species....
But lets be frank, our grand 'social programs' are going against the tenets of Darwin's Law's of Natural selection, and Mother Nature will not be held in check forever. While it's great to have a helping hand when times are tough, and it's admirable for a society to offer benefits to it's constituents, the problem has simply gotten out of hand. What was created as a form of temporary assistance, has become a lifestyle. This simply cannot be sustained. It's basic math, folks.
In nature, the herd shuns and forces out members that do not get along w/ the rest of the herd. I've seen that on Saturday Morning nature shows since I was 5. Why is that half of America can't see what's happening, nor admit what it's going to take to solve the problem? And why is it taboo to even discuss the only solution that remotely stands up to basic-math? Because it's uncomfortable? So stick your head in the sand and pretend it doesn't exist, since you don't want to deal with it? No, no, some long-winded lawyer-type-career-politician (who never lived a day in the world you and I do: a.k.a 'the herd') will extoll the virtue's of more of the same (like an alcoholic that asks for his whiskey in the morning, "to clear up the hang-over...")
You know what's coming, and you know where we are headed. React accordingly, but don't bitch that you're not happy w/ the headlight staring down the tracks at you. You know damned well what's on the other end of it. You decided to stick your head in the sand and pretend you didn't hear the whistle blowing, remember?

While one can certainly make a cogent argument that America and the West is in a Fourth Turning, given the obvious events domestically and throughout the world, we're also doing a remarkable job, although certainly an imperfect one, of can-kicking and keeping the sky from massively falling. Thus, that feeding frenzy in that Walmart may well indicate two things: a lingering Third Turning thrill and appetite for piling on the material goodies, coupled with an early Fourth Turning feeling of increasing economic hardship for many folks (especially for many of those who go to discount stores). Thus, that cheap, has-all-the-bells-and-whistles camera or foxy new heavily-discounted PlayStation console, among other high-quality, heavily-discounted Black Friday booty, can no doubt be a siren sound to many who are more than willing to really wait in line outside for a chance to tear into the store and grab their treasure.
It's like manna from heaven fused in with a special adrenaline-pumping "action holiday" that greets many people as part of the holiday season. There's no better tribute to mass American excess for budget-conscious Americans, in my humble opinion. Just more food for thought to follow the Thanksgiving meal.... —Regards/Peace, Marc
