The "yes" vote was a lot lower than the vote last August on a similar resolution, where 133 states voted "yes". According to some analysts, the reason that fewer states supported the resolution this time is because many of them are beginning to believe that with help from Russia and Iran, al-Assad is going to win the war, war crimes and all.

From the point of view of Generational Dynamics, that expectation is not realistic. Syria is in a generational Awakening era, like America in the 1960s, and the young Sunni fighters are not going to capitulate to the Shia Alawite regime

The "Arab Spring" inspired this war in Syri, but the Obama administration reaction to the Arab Spring in Tunisia, Egypt and Libya guaranteed that it would be a much bloodier affair.

The U.S. left for dead long time friends and allies in Egypt and Tunisia. The U.S. also led Sunni Islamist forces in Syria to believe the U.S. would allow them to take over the country by force of arms.

The Alewites, who are not only natural allies of Iran and Russia, were also potential natural allies of the U.S. and France, but they will never trust the U.S. to protect partners of the west from Islamist Sunni extremists after what happened in Egypt and Tunisia, and what is continuing to happen in Libya.

Yeah, well, I don't think Assad is out of the fight just yet. This may be an awakening era, but all the support from Russia and Iran, even if it can't propel him to victory, will still allow him to avoid total defeat.
