What I'm seeing happpen in the Ukraine and Syria by Putin is similar to what Louis the XIV of France did. Claiming territory that was historical of other countries and trying to build France as the dominant power in Europe, he invertily cause the war of Spanish Succession. Putin doing the same thing, except he's creating ( knowingly or unknowingly) the seeds for a war that Russia can't win on it's own. With Chechnya, China looking towards Siberia, and now possibly Ukraine, he could loss every thing he work hard to gain.

I thought you said your opinion was that the Ukrainian people were nowhere near a war. What prompted the sudden change?

The situation in Odessa "feels" to me worse than in eastern
Ukraine. Also, Odessa is being infiltrated by foreigners from
Transnistria.
