Well, even if you might disagree with me, I don't think our president has learned a damn thing. These strikes are only a token effort, about 1/17th of what we conducted during the 72 days it took to overthrow the Taliban. I hope this doesn't turn out to be a political move, but I have a suspicion that it is.

Speaking of Assad, I'm noticing that even though the Islamic State holds a lot more Syrian territory, Assad is focusing most of his efforts on the Free Syrian Army. Some people seem to think he's some kind of hero for standing up to jihadists; I've seen plenty of comments to that effect on Breitbart and other places. The Islamic State keeps any significant help from the West from reaching the rebels and Assad's brutality is a wonderful tool for ISIS recruitment; they both benefit from it.

The only thing I'm not real sure of when it comes to the alignment is Russia siding with the United States. Considering the numerous threats in our direction, there's at least a possibility that we'll be fighting one another.

I always like to point out: Russia was our bitter enemy before WW II,
Russia was our ally during WW II, and Russia was our bitter enemy
after WW II.

The Russians may be hated by most of the American people and the military but, the ruling class sees them as a needed ally and will bend over backwards to accommodate them and prevent a conflict between us and them. Surely Obama has no inclination to confront Vald Putin and the Russians. He has done nothing to help the Ukrainians and is now doing very little to help the Kurds in Kobani Syria. He seeks only to help his own standing in the court of public opinion, which he feels confident he can bend and twist to fit his desired image.

Turkey has been at the center on many wars in it's long History. They have all the time in the world to step in and start fighting. They can sit back and watch ISIL kill the PKK fighters and have their dirty work done for them. Then they can step in and take out Al Assad while pretending to fight against the ISIL that the other countries see as a terrorist group and they see is a minor problem caused by past missteps and not their problem to deal with.
