One possible reason why Israel is invading Gaza
One possible reason why Israel is invading Gaza
I'm very surprised no one is talking about the reasons why Israel may have escalated the palestinian issue.
Regarding your statement... "Or the invasion may have begun by the time you read this. If the invasion does take place, it's hard to see what the objective will be."
Maybe they are taking out the bulk of Hamas's (and other Palestinian groups) capabilities to hit Israel before they take on Iran.
Even though everyone knows Iran is arming the Palestinians, we may here more about this just before they hit Iran hard.
We'll see.

Actually, my opinion was that Israel is feeling more and more like a cornered animals and there's nothing more dangerous than that. At least that's the impression I've gotten from their newspapers and discussions. The Middle East is in flames, it looks like Egypt is becoming their enemy once again, and the Palestinians are becoming more aggressive.
One last point: they haven't actually invaded Gaza yet, though they're bombing the crap out of them. Whether they will or not... we'll find out in a few days.

I keep hearing Israel is bombing the crap out I gaza, but yesterday on CNN they say Israel had bombed 80 targets. A lot, yes. But they also said that was I response to 140 missiles that had been fired in Israel.Trevor wrote:Actually, my opinion was that Israel is feeling more and more like a cornered animals and there's nothing more dangerous than that. Four years ago, right before Obama took office, they had a much heavier bombing operation that targeted the electric grid, telephone land line network, and the smuggling tunnels in mass. By comparison the bombing this month has been restrained.Trevor wrote:they ( Israel ) haven't actually invaded Gaza yet, though they're bombing the crap out of them. If Israel responded in kind, that is with an air war attacking the civilian infrastructure in Gaza in response to Hamas targeting rockets at both the civilian infrastructure and the civilian population in Israel, it would reach a level not seen four years ago or today.
Such an aerial attack by Israel would succeed in destroying electric power generation, water supply facilities and sewer facilities. The only difference between that, and what Hamas is trying to do, is that Hamas is ineffective in it's attacks.

Israel must achieve both of the following goals to have a clear win out of this conflict / war with Hamas.
1. They must end all rocket attacks on Israel from Gaza for a period of months.
2. They must halt the massive importation of weapons into Gaza.
Israel has not yet escalated the air war to the point they can leave Hamas shaken, as it was after the last punishment war.
The only way to stem the flow of weapons into Gaza is to either get the Muslim Brotherhood led Egyptian military to enforce the ban, or,
Or, to reoccupy the portion of Gaza that has a border with Egypt.
So far Israel has not used enough force to achieve either of those goals.

One thing I was hearing was that one reason they didn't invade Gaza was because we threatened to cut off all military and economic aid if they did. I'm not entirely sure if this is true, but I think it's at least a possibility.

Interesting you say this, as just last night I was thinking that the admin sure did seem to be supporting Israel a lot this time around, which baffled me. Then when Morsi basically declared himself King, I knew something had to be up. It seems as if this entire even was staged by Morsi, so he could convince Obama only HE (Morsi) can control things in the area. As such, he now has free reign to reign over the people, as he has effectively replaced Mubarak, but in a way in which allows him to offer more assistance to the Islamic radicals.Trevor wrote:One thing I was hearing was that one reason they didn't invade Gaza was because we threatened to cut off all military and economic aid if they did. One thing I also noticed once the cease-fire was announced was that the majority of people on both sides didn't want it. Both of them wanted to eseclate the war further, perhaps taking the final step. In all, it seemed like a publicity stunt by Hamas to win the support of the rest of the Middle East.

And to regroup and reload, while fortifying their rocket positions.Trevor wrote:One thing I also noticed once the cease-fire was announced was that the majority of people on both sides didn't want it.
