If Iran is trying as hard as it can to get nukes now, how would Saddam Hussain still being in power have made it quicker?
And won't they have to test the nuke, if they want it for deterence?

Once the U.S. guaranteed, in 2003, that Saddam no longer had WMDs,Tom Mazanec wrote: > If Iran is trying as hard as it can to get nukes now, how would

then Iran could take its time developing its own WMDs. But if it
hadn't been for the Iraq war, Iran would have assumed that Saddam
still had the WMDs, at the least the same ones that had been used on
Iran in 1988, and they would have been pressured to implement their
own programs as quickly as possible.
With regard to nuclear technology, they might have aggressively
purchased it from North Korea, Pakistan or Russia instead of
developing it themselves.
