This is incorrect. We claim that all of Greece (except for Sparta) was at that time part of the Kingdom of Macedon. Alexander lead a Greek army in his conquests. He even send back the spoils of war with a message that they belonged to "all of the Greeks, except the Spartans."They claim that he was Greek because at that time the Kingdom of Macedon was part of Greece.

This is really out of hand. But then these are citizens of Greek heritage, and Greeks insist on fighting. Pretty much the national pastime. There will be fist-a-cuffs and maybe even shooting. Whatever occurs will be done with great passion--hystrionics even.

Macedonians and Greeks were different nations. Ancient Greeks considered Macedonians to be foreigners, not fellow Greeks. In modern terms think o the differences between Albania and Greece.

Actually, there was great distension on the mater even in ancient times as to whether the Macedonian language was a dialect of Greed or another language. What is clear from the archaeological record is that there was no Slavic language written in the Kingdom Macedon, only a divergent dialect of Greek.Guest wrote:Macedonians and Greeks were different nations. As far as considering the Macedonians to be foreigners, the Athenians certainly considered the Spartans, Macedoneans, Thebeans and Corinthians to be foreigners.

Greeks all over Greece considered Macedonians to be foreigners. Only the Spartans had a king. The Greeks didn't like monarchy. The Macedonians were ruled by a king; that's something the most Greeks despised. Alexander the Great adopted aspects of Persians culture, especially in regards to monarchy. He declared himself a living god, something that Greeks and Macedonians thought was ridiculous. While Macedonian elites might have learned Greek, the average Macedonian did not.Guest wrote:Actually, there was great distension on the mater even in ancient times as to whether the Macedonian language was a dialect of Greed or another language. Macedonians were not Greeks. Alexander the Great never called himself Greek. He might have appreciated some aspects of Greek culture, but he liked Persian culture more.
The Greeks are hijacking Macedonian culture themselves. What hypocrisy.
