The yuan can't displace the dollar for the simple reason that it's a managed currency which is regularly manipulated by the Chinese government. You may say that the US dollar is the same, but there is a much greater transparency and US institutions can only nibble around the edges rather than running roughshod over it.DaKardii wrote: Thu Dec 31, 2020 3:20 pmThe American foreign policy establishment is much more anti-China than you think.Silenced S wrote: Wed Dec 30, 2020 9:29 pm Of course, if Biden/Harris are allowed to take power, that's it for America - their administration will see America become China's vassal.
I believe John is grossly underestimating the malevolence of the Deep State and misattributing their actions to incompetence.
At least half of that establishment sees China as a threat because it occupies part of the "Eurasian Balkans" power void that Zbigniew Brzezinski claimed is the ultimate factor that decides whether the post-Soviet global order is unipolar or bipolar. See his 1997 book "The Grand Chessboard" for more info.
And at least half of that establishment sees China as a threat because it has the potential to displace the dollar as the world's global reserve currency.
Iran is a threat because it insists on destabilizing the region. Iran is the largest supporter of terrorist groups and aims them both at Sunni Arab states as well as Israel. The latter seems to be a particular obsession that makes little sense since if left alone Israel wouldn't care about Iran at all.Note that both of the above factions see Iran and Russia as threats for the exact same reasons. Why do you think those three countries are always listed as being America's chief enemies in virtually every pro-establishment article? Of course, the authors of those articles are never going to tell you their true motives.
Which begs the questions. Are these threats being exaggerated, if not outright fabricated? And is the foreign policy establishment trying to manufacture excuses for war?
Russia is a threat for the same destabilizing reasons, though it isn't obsessed with any particular country. In Russia the actions seem be more the perpetuate the political power of Putin and the economic power of the oligarchs; more of the former than the latter though since the oligarchs would do better with the absence of global sanctions and a stronger rule of law to protect their interests.
There is some exaggeration by groups looking to have those two states as official Enemies, but both have earned their opprobrium. Of course China is a much greater medium and short term danger but various groups are addicted to the money the make off the China trade.
