Yes, I frequently read Felgenhauer's stuff in the Jamestown Eurasia
Daily Monitor. But this situation is really strange.

First, I don't believe that a Russian invasion of Ukraine will start
WW III, any more than it did in 2014, and I consider that statement to
be sensationalistic, but I blame that quote on the writer of the
article.

However, he was the principal analyst on the al-Jazeera show that I
summaried in my previous posting, and he didn't say anything like
that.

He was the one that talked about the snow melting. But he didn't say
that Russia might invade Ukraine. He said that Kiev might declare war
on Donbas, and Russia might have to "get involved." I thought that
was a bizarre thing to say. There was a Kiev analyst on the show and
he just laughed, and said that Ukraine was definitely not going to
attack.

So when Felgenhauer made that bizarre remark, my reaction was that he
must be afraid of insulting Putin. You say that he's not pro-Putin,
but he still might be afraid of Putin.

And then there's this:

-- Russian Investigative Paper Novaya Gazeta Says Targeted in
'Chemical Attack'
https://www.themoscowtimes.com/2021/03/ ... ack-a73246
(Moscow Times / AFP, 16-Mar-2021)

So Felgenhauer is a columnist for Novaya Gazeta, and a couple
of weeks ago it was attacked, and not for the first time.

It was just three years ago that Felgenhauer's own stepdaughter,
Tatyana Felgenhauer, was stabbed in the neck while working at a radio
station associated with Novaya Gazeta:

-- Russian 'Novaya Gazeta' newspaper set to arm reporters after
stabbing
https://www.dw.com/en/russian-novaya-ga ... a-41132890
(Deutsche Welle, 26-Oct-2017)

-- Russian radio host Tatyana Felgenhauer stabbed in the neck
https://www.dw.com/en/russian-radio-hos ... a-41083014
(Deutsche Welle, 24-Oct-2017)

So it may be that Pavel Felgenhauer felt subdued in the al-Jazeera
program, and didn't want to do anything to provoke another attack.

And that sums up Russia perfectly.

Putin is a murderer and a mafia-type boss. He has NO ethical compass. He is capable of anything.

He knows he cannot give up power and expect to live very long. So he might as well risk going down in a blaze of glory with the upside being that he is hailed as the restorer of Russian greatness.

The Russians are morally bankrupt too.
Yes. You are right. Espcially about the Russian people. Even Putin's Russian opponents support his wars in Checnhya, Gerorgia, and the annexation of the Crimea. "The opposition" in places like Russia or Serbia are often just bad guys fighting bad guys. The idea that opposition figures are "Good guys" fighting "bad guys" is wishful thinking.

One day Putin will be toppled, but his replacement will be another Putin. The new leader of Russian just won't be as openly corrupt as Putin has been, but he will be corrupt and he will carrying on with Putin's policies.

Most of the opposition to Putin stems from the out of control corruption of the Russian state apparatus. If oil was $120 a barrel and foreign investment returned to Russia, the protests would end. It's the dinner table and wallet of Russians which has been badly affected by sanctions and Putin's uncontrollable greed. Don't expect a tiger to change its stripes.

Putin was just voted the sexist man in Russia in 2021. Really. But, in fairness to Putin, Russian men are generally beastly looking. Just saying.

North Korea is a vassal of Communist China. Kim Jong-un occasionally
throws a temper tantrum and does something the CCP doesn't like, but
basically Kim does as he's told. I consider it likely that the
CCP gave Kim the OK for Thursday's ballistic missile launches.

In my opinion, North Korea will not invade South Korea without China's
permission, and that means it will be done in coordination with
China's invasion of Taiwan or Japan or an attack on the United States.
Is this really rocket science? The Chinese Communist Party is an entirely malign entity, aggressive, expansionist and murderous.

Clueless whelps like Merkel and Macron are happy to fund the expansion and modernisation of the Chinese armed forces for short term political gain. The UK shouldn't be.

CHINA

This is a country building more and more coal fired power stations.

This is a country that trains surgeons by operating on dogs that are then left to die horrific deaths in cages on hospital rooftops.

This is a country whose dark ages attitudes to animal welfare drives cruelty on an industrial scale, extinction of entire species and viral crossover events.

This is a country that we WILL be at war with at some point in the next fifty years.

China's expansion of influence and territory needs to be stopped. Now.

Just a reminder:
Mike Snyder is still posting articles about the Ukrainian Crisis on his website.
