I'm not saying that's impossible, but I would guess the problem arose
because of something else you did at around the same time -- like
clicking on a link in a spam message, or opening up an attachment or
visiting a "watering hole" web site in China.

What do you mean by "bombarded with"? Do you mean you're getting
Chinese language e-mail messages? Or do you mean that Chinese
language ads are popping up on your computer screen?
