I just asked you if there has ever been a time in your whole life in which you didn't see inflation? We both know the answer, so I don't know what is so difficult for you to understand. For your and my lifetime, inflation as a matter of fact has been permanent. This isn't arguable. What world are you living in?

You are evading the obvious facts, and I'm not sure why. Powell admitted recently that inflation has persisted beyond their expectations, and it even continues. You can't even say anything close to that, which is more bizarro-world stuff.

Can anyone else explain what is going on in John's head on this particular issue? I don't even know where to begin. To recap the facts:

Inflation of the USD is a fact of life, for all of our lives, no matter how old you are. What's "deflationary" about that? And to boot, it's with a backdrop of major technological innovation and efficiency for decades, yet we still have lost purchasing power year after year!!!

Please tell me the sky is blue. Then we don't have to waste more time assessing why someone can't just be honest about what plainly is.

If you think that Powell and I are wrong saying that inflation
is transitory, then just say it's permanent and get it over with.

I'm just getting back to the fundamentals. Tell me when in your entire life inflation hasn't occurred, please. Also, define your word transitory or else, if you don't, you get to just keep hiding behind it since everything in the world and in world history has been "transitory".

The problem with this is the same leftist issue: language. You are conflating deflation with disinflation. And by not defining what transitory means (Powell at least already admitted they were wrong in their assumptions), you get to keep BSing us with your "oh it'll go away" - even though you were wrong qualitatively by any objective measure. You just get to keep kicking the transitory can down the road. How convenient, no accountability for your assertions.

You are right on many topics, but on this topic, your entire approach is nonsensical, and the definition of ignorant. You ignore what Fed Chair Powell says, what you have been wrong about, the history of the USD, the desire of the central banks, the inflation of particular assets through balance sheet expansion, etc.

The dollar is so deflationary your cost of living has risen year over year, substantially.

Sounds like deflation to me.

Take a look at the "Historical Consumer Price Index Change"
table that I posted last month:

As you can see from this table, cpi was negative in 2009 and again in
2015. According to you, that should have meant a crash, but there
was no crash, just a negative cpi.

In particular, the large cpi spike in 2008 was transitory. It appears
that we're following exactly the same pattern today. We'll see.

Many people are incorrectly predicting inflation like the 1970s.
That's literally impossible, for reasons I've given many times.
Today's inflation is not like the 1970s. Today's inflation is
transitory.
