Thanks, Navigator. This makes it much easier to follow what's going on than the map Wikipedia has been using does.Navigator wrote: ↑Fri Feb 25, 2022 12:30 amThis link is a good way to see the latest videos from the near battlefield. It shows a map of Ukraine with pins for locations of military operations.
From their you get links to videos showing the actual operations.

Is cutting back oil production or cutting off oil in the middle of the winter considered soft power in Russia?
The very concept of soft power is that it is used to persuade rather than coerce. Putin has been using both persuasion and coercion in his wielding of power, while Hitler only used coercion. An example of Putin using soft power is setting up Russo-centric free trade agreements such as the Eurasian Economic Union.

— From an Observer, Russian-Israeli diplomat Yaakov Kedmi says the current operation in Ukraine may be only the first stage of Russia's "military-technical" response to the West.
He says the next steps could be deployments to Serbia, Nicaragua, Venezuela, and Cuba.

Kedmi is on the Kremlin payroll. He is a Putin mouth piece. However, what he says gives away what Putin is up to. Sending troops to Serbia, Nicaragua, Venezuela, and Cuba shows that Russia is planning on expanding their activities via combat troops.Guest wrote: ↑Fri Feb 25, 2022 8:49 am— From an Observer, Russian-Israeli diplomat Yaakov Kedmi says the current operation in Ukraine may be only the first stage of Russia's "military-technical" response to the West.

Cuba voiced public support for the invasion of Ukraine, so Russia suspended Cuban debt repayment for a few years. Serbia, Nicaragua, Venezuela, and Cuba are bankrupt, corrupt, and ruled by dictators. They will do whatever is necessary to stay in power. They are also all deeply anti-America.

Difficult to get a good read on the actual military situation in Ukraine. I hope UtahBob continues to post links to the briefings.
In military terms, if your army is moving forward at about 20 miles a day (about 30km), you are making good progress.
Looking at the situation maps I can see, the Russians appear to have broken through on the Crimea, and are flanking the established Ukrainian positions towards the breakaway republics. Also, they may have established a bridgehead across the Dnieper River near Kherson. The Dnieper is the major defensive line for the "heart" of Ukraine, and having Russians controlling bridges across it would be a major reverse for Ukraine.
Ukraine is a big place. It will take the Russians quite some time to take it over and install their puppet regime.
Kudos to the Ukrainians for not allowing this to be a "cake walk" for the Russians. It appears they counterattacked the Russian paratroops at the airport NW of Kiev and retook the facility.
Here is the best current map I could find of the situation, from a pretty good German reporter. His twitter feed is very good. (Use google translate if you need to for his German posts)

I remember this goofball wearing wool vests and headsets, and giving corny presentations on YT about how 9/11 was an inside job back in 2007-2008. I can't believe this shyster is still around. I honestly wonder if he really believes in any of the conspiracy theories that he pushes. Hella of a way to make a living.thomasglee wrote: ↑Thu Feb 24, 2022 10:52 amThe best, most accurate, and to the point analysis of the issue in Ukraine. He contradicts himself constantly. Corbett speaks in an overbearing and smug way, which leads his low IQ followers to believe he is telling the truth. I have more respect for the useless Slavoj Žižek than this guy. James Corbett makes Slavoj Žižek look like Buddha.
So you are one of his followers? Do you send him money? (You should have kept this tidbit to yourself.)
Enjoy the 4D chess talk, Tommy...

Yes, and he played the "democracy" game until the US and NATO coup'd the elected Ukrainian leader. I find it funny that most people conveniently forget this. I think most actually don't know. To act like NATO are good guys is silly. They are just as power mongering, if not, worse. Ukraine has been a shadow government to pay US politicians' families. How many people know that Biden, Pelosi, Kerry and Romney have kids on Ukrainian "energy" business boards? LOL, it's an obvious scam and Putin knows it, and is putting an end to it. As he should.DaKardii wrote: ↑Fri Feb 25, 2022 12:48 amActually, no. It is hard power.new guy wrote: ↑Fri Feb 25, 2022 12:17 amThe madness continues, I see...

** 25-Feb-2022 World View: Putin overextended?
I just saw General Keith Kellogg on Fox Business Network. He says
that if Russian forces try to take Kiev by force, then they will be
severely overextended, and the war will be deemed a failure by the
Russian public. The Russian troops are already facing a great deal of
resistance. He said that Putin will have to double his bodyguards in
that case.
During the last 24 hours, there have been numerous news reports of
antiwar protests across multiple cities in Russia. Most of the people
of Russia apparently don't believe Putin's justifications for the war,
and believe that Russia is invading Ukraine with no justification.
