Poland has announced it will immediately transfer all its MIG-29 jets to Rammstein Air Base in Germany and put them at the disposal of the United States.

This is for onward delivery to Ukraine. Putin has said that supply of heavy weapons to Ukraine will be considered an act of war.

Looks like NATO is joining the conflict very soon.

According to the Fox news, the Biden administration has not (yet)
agreed to this.

We, the modern "west", collectively hung Ukraine out to dry years ago. They have no security guarantees from the US or from NATO. This was tested by the Russians in 2014 when they grabbed the Crimea. It proved that no one was going to come to Ukraine's defense.

That is the case now. Ukraine is basically on its own, other than supplies and ammunition we ship it.

We are not going to cross any line that in OUR MIND puts NATO into this. Because we don't want a wider war.

I am glad that the Ukrainians are holding out and doing damage to the Russians. The more the better. But this whole war is little more than two weeks old. At the current rate, it looks like it will last months. And the Russians will remain until they get what they want.

We have not yet seen the effects of food shortages, especially in front line cities like Kharkov, Sumy and Kiev. (Sorry, I learned the spelling of these places from WW2 history). We need to recognize that the Russians have been brutal in suppressing Ukrainian independence in the past (Stalin literally starved millions of them to death on purpose), and they will be just as brutal now if that is what it eventually takes. The other shortage will be for regular ammunition for the Ukrainians. We are sending lots of anti-tank rockets, but what they will need most of all is small arms ammunition and artillery shells. The Russians have a LOT of the latter and will shortly be using them to wear down Ukrainian numbers. This may take months, but I don't put much hope on the long term survival of the Ukrainians, especially as the effects of the breakdown of their domestic logistics takes place (who is delivering groceries to Kiev at this point?)

In hindsight, the reasonable thing to have done at the breakup of the USSR was to provide NATO security guarantees to the Baltics and Ukraine, but NOT have them join the alliance, and to promise the Russians that no NATO weapons or troops would ever be deployed to these countries, BUT that they would be defended like a NATO member if Russian forces crossed their borders. Unfortunately, we didn't do that. And Obama did NOTHING when the Ukraine's guarantees by the US were tested in 2014.

As this goes on longer, the Russian public will, IMHO, rally around Putin in the claim that NATO is secretly fighting them in the Ukraine, and NATO was really the cause of all of this.

In the meantime, all of NATO's anti-tank weapons will be in the Ukraine. And the Russian military will have made drastic changes to its tactics.

With Russia effectively becoming a vassal state of China is it possible that the CCP takes out Putin in favor of a puppet since Putin can't be expected to be a lapdog like Kim Jong-un? And, of all of the bad outcomes, would that be the worst of them?

Kim Jong un is hardly a lapdog. He's troublesome for the Chinese. Yes, North Korea is dependent on China for many things, but NK also knows that China needs them North Korea. If the Kim Regime collapses, then China has two options: Invade NK and inherit a big mess OR allow South Korea to absorb it and have US troops on the border. Neither are good options for China.

Considering that the average Russian looks down on the Chinese, I doubt the Chinese could engineer something like that. Russia has always played a dominant role in the relationship. Russia, after being humiliated at the loss of the USSR, will not further degrade itself by publicly kowtowing to China. The average Russia would balk at Chinese political dominance.
