Purged by Putin? The head of Russia's Ministry of Defense Sergei Shoigu has not been seen in public for 12 days and is possibly missing, according to reports and messages circulated on Telegram on Wednesday.
Investigative journalists from the Russian independent news outlets Mediazona and Agentstvo claimed on Wednesday that the normally media savvy Shoigu has not appeared in public since March 11.
There are rumours that Shoigu is in poor health and is experiencing heart problems, while other messages are swirling online suggest Shoigu might have been fired from the ministry and is on house arrest, according to Russian journalists.

Most likely, as Shoigu, who liked to parade around in a Russian Marshall's uniform (their 5-star equivalent), had ZERO military experience, yet was the Russian Chief of the Joint Chiefs/Defense Minister in combination. He would have been responsible for the overall plan and military readiness. He was very close to Putin, and seems to have been a master at "office politics".Guest wrote: ↑Wed Mar 23, 2022 3:13 pmPurged by Putin? The head of Russia's Ministry of Defense Sergei Shoigu has not been seen in public for 12 days and is possibly missing, according to reports and messages circulated on Telegram on Wednesday.

Right now, Putin is probably searching for the military people who actually are competent to help extricate him from this mess and to rebuild, refit, and re-orient the Russian military.

Shoigu is a civil engineer who is well known in Russia (and even the ex-Soviet Union) for his ability to get things done when he managed the emergency response agency. And yes, he has zero military expereince.Navigator wrote: ↑Wed Mar 23, 2022 4:50 pmMost likely, as Shoigu, who liked to parade around in a Russian Marshall's uniform (their 5-star equivalent), had ZERO military experience, yet was the Russian Chief of the Joint Chiefs/Defense Minister in combination. However, none of the men Putin has appointed as Defense Minister have had any military experience. It is part of Putin strategy of humiliating the Russian military. The Defense minister before Shoigu, Anatoly Serdyukov, had managed furniture stores. His only military service was as a RED army truck driver for two years in Soviet Moldova. And before him, the DM was a disgraced KGB agent. Puitn doesn't trust the Russian army. Having these particular men in charge was a calibrate insult. The exiled oligarch Pugachev talked about this directly in a recent interview. Putin is weird.

These numbers are quite believable. The Pentagon estimated last week that the number of Russian dead was around 7000. The Ukrainians and even other Western defense analysts placed the numbers higher than that.thomasglee wrote: ↑Wed Mar 23, 2022 1:00 pmIf the losses are truly as bad as claimed (you must admit, those are almost beyond belief), then why is NATO going on alert and why is Zellensky screaming for help? That's almost 25.000 Soldiers, dead or wounded.

We can make an equivalency of losing 1.5 US Army divisions. (The US has 10 Army Divisions)
I find it hard to believe that their losses are far exceeding the losses the US sustained in Iraq. If these "reports" are correct, then good for Ukraine. But again, I find it hard to believe that Russia's loss in a month is half of what the US lost during 10 years of Vietnam.
NATO is on alert because with Putin drastic losses he might have to resort to WMD in order to fend off total defeat. Zelensky knows that the Russian army will simply sit back and pulverize entire cities and starve out the population of Ukraine. The Russian army is an artillery force. Russian infantry is substandard. The American infantry could easily sweep the Russians away.

Do I even need to say why this is an incredibly scary development?

Yes, DaKardii, why is this an "incredibly scary development" (even if it is in my State) when I am worrying about Russian 800 kT SS-25s hitting Cleveland and Akron?DaKardii wrote: ↑Thu Mar 24, 2022 12:10 am7 hospitalized after fentanyl travels through air vents at juvenile detention center in Ohio.
