** 07-Apr-2023 World View: Probability of Mideast war increasing
There was a terror attack in Tel Aviv
today, killing one Israeli and the
attacker, and wounding six people. The
attacker drove his car through a crowd
and followed up with gunfire. Hamas has
officially praised the attack,
suggesting that there will be more such
attacks.
This follows an exchange of rockets and
missiles between Palestinians (in Gaza
and Lebanon) and Israel. So far,
Hezbollah has not been involved, which
suggests that they don't want a war at
the current moment.
These attacks were triggered earlier
this week by clashes between Palestinians
and Israelis at the Al-Aqsa Mosque /
Temple Mount in Jerusalem. Those
clashes are continuing sporadically.

Russia has lost a lot of ground since the 2022 invasion; however, losing or holding onto small towns like Bakhmut is not a good indicator of who is winning. Ukraine has made tactic withdrawals from towns and then counter attacked and taken whole districts. The ebb and flow of battle is what it is. Bakhmut, at this point, is symbolic, but not too much beyond that. I don't think capturing a ruined town like Bakhmut would really raise the moral of freezing, hungry, and poorly equipped Russian soldiers. A victory there would be a Pyrrhic one; the cost to the Russians is already sky high. A few more victors like that and Russia will be defeated.Guest wrote: ↑Fri Apr 07, 2023 7:38 amYeah. Not so fast...
It sounds like the Russians altered the numbers and then released the file.
If the Russians are 'winning', why are they still losing ground?
Sorry to be the one to break the bad news to you.
This is what happens when you watch RT television all day.![]()
What the Ukrainians did pushing the Russians away from Kiev was far more impressive.
A Ukraine is being flooded with NATO weapons; Russia buying ammo from North Korea! I think the horrendous state of Russian logistics is a far better measure of who is winning the war.

** 08-Apr-2023 World View: Jerusalem - The Center of the Universe
During the last 20 years of writing
books and thousands of articles on my
web site, I have seen over and over
again that Jerusalem seems to be the
center of the universe, or at least the
center of the entire Western world.
Whether it was the Egyptians or the
Romans or the Arabs or the British or
the Russians, major wars always seemed
to be centered around Jerusalem.
Jerusalem is the holiest or one of the
holiest centers for four major religions
-- Judaism, Eastern Orthodox
Christianity, Western (Catholic,
Protestant) Christianity, and Islam.
This has made Jerusalem a cauldron of
conflict for millennia.
This weekend celebrates holy days in all
of these four religions -- Jewish
Passover, Orthodox Palm Sunday,
Catholic/Protestant Easter, and Muslim
Ramadan. This fact alone means that
tensions are very high in Jerusalem.
Analysts are mixed as to whether the
latest round of violence will lead to a
wider war. Whether that happens
probably depends on whether Hezbollah
leaders in Lebanon want a wider war, and
those decisions probably depend on what
their masters in Tehran want them to do.
Even without Hezbollah's participation,
it looks like there is going to be a new
war between Israel and the Palestians,
but we've already had several of those
in the last 20 years.

Reach Melitopol, and head south to Tavriisk. Then shut off the Crimea canal. Kerch bridge downed. Russia unable to re supply apart from via Sebastopol and just wait for Russians to starve/leave. It doesn't matter how sophisticated the Orcs make their trench systems, when the Kerch Bridge goes down they are cut off from re-supply.guest388 wrote: ↑Sat Apr 08, 2023 8:24 amRussia has lost a lot of ground since the 2022 invasion; however, losing or holding onto small towns like Bakhmut is not a good indicator of who is winning. Ukraine War Plans Leak Prompts Pentagon Investigation
https://www.nytimes.com/2023/04/06/us/p ... ussia.html
Note the key part: the actual ratio of Russian casualties to Ukrainian casualties is about 1:4.5 in Russia's favor, not the 2:1 favoring Ukraine that the "officials" made up. And they are, of course, trying to pass off the real numbers as "disinformation" while attempting in vain to scrub the leak from social media.
Russia is winning the war. And our government can no longer stop us from knowing it.
It sounds like the Russians altered the numbers and then released the file.
If the Russians are 'winning', why are they still losing ground?
The analysts warned that documents released by Russian sources could be selectively altered to present the Kremlin’s disinformation.
“Whether these documents are authentic or not, people should take care with anything released by Russian sources,” said Michael Kofman, the director of Russian studies at CNA, a research institute in Arlington, Virginia.
One of the slides said 16,000 to 17,500 Russian soldiers had been killed while Ukraine had suffered as many as 71,500 troop deaths. The Pentagon and other analysts have estimated that Russia has suffered far more casualties, and that closer to 200,000 soldiers on each side had been killed or wounded.
Nonetheless, analysts said parts of the documents appeared authentic and provide Russia with valuable information such as the timetables for the delivery of weapons and troops, Ukrainian troop buildup numbers and other military details.
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/ ... d-snowden/Some had been crudely doctored to increase the Ukrainian casualties and reduce the Russian ones.

** 09-Apr-2023 World View: The Two Israels
Things have been quiet today (Sunday) at
the Jerusalem holy sites, but in the
region as a whole the violence appears
to be spreading. Israel is exchanging
rocket and missile file with the
Palestinians in Gaza and southern
Lebanon refugee camps. What's new today
is that Israel is also exchanging fire
with missile sites in Syria.
So far, the role of Hezbollah (and Iran)
has not been reported. In particular,
it's not known whether the Palestinians
in southern Lebanon launched rocket
strikes with or without the permission
of Hezbollah. If it was with
permission, then a wider war would be
more likely. I believe that I heard one
analyst say that Hezbollah was planning
anti-Israel protests on Friday.
Today's JTA (Jewish Telegraph Agency)
newsletter contains an article about
"Two Israels," describing some of the
contradictions in Israeli society. The
point of the article is the massive
street protests going on in Israel today
are animated by many more issues than
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's
proposed judicial reform of the Supreme
Court.

Here are some of the issues and
contradictions described in the article:

This happens because both countries are
in a generational Crisis Era, and the
lunacy will end when these countries
face an existential crisis in the form
of World War III.

Here are some of the issues and
contradictions described in the article:
- Supporters of judicial reform
claim that under the current system,
unelected judges too often overrule
elected lawmakers. Opponents say that
the reforms would give unchecked and
unprecedented power to legislators. - There are disagreements over
Palestinians and the occupation. The
Palestinian Authority is weakened and
ineffective, Palestinian youth lack hope
for a better future, and Israeli
settlers feel emboldened by supporters
in the ruling coalition. - There is a resurgent patriotism
among the center and the left. - There is a Jewish Diaspora
emboldened to weigh in on the future of
Zionism. - There are divisions over the growing
power of Israel’s haredi Orthodox
sector. Secular Israelis especially
resent that the haredim
disproportionately seek exemption from
military service and that non-haredi
Israelis contribute some 90% of all
taxes collected. - There is a divide between Ashkenazi
Jews with roots in Europe and Mizrahi
Jews whose ancestry is Middle Eastern
and North African. - Conservatives insist that Israeli
“elites” — the highly educated, the tech
sector, the military leadership, and
others — don’t respect the will of the
majority who brought Netanyahu and his
coalition partners to power. This is
why Netanyahu's opponents refer to him
as "Israel's Trump." - There is a split between those who
believe that Israel should be a more
religious country, and those who want it
to be more secular. This is between
those who see Israel’s founding vision
as a European-style, rights-based
democracy, and those who see that vision
as the return of the Jews to their
ancient homeland.

Don’t expect anything other than childishness and petulance from the Chinese Communist Party leadership. It’s a very dangerous time to have a very frail US President and an idiotic Vice President. Why else are the Chinese escalating the situation?
