Communist China is building 12 Stealth Frigates a year - based on the design of the U.S. electronics equipped and U.S. armed Royal Thai Navy ships built by China, under contract to Thailand in 2010, to Thai specifications.

The first of these Chinese ships was launched in May 2012 and just went on activity duty. Nine more have been launched but have not yet completed Sea Trials and two more are still in construction. The advanced electronics allow the crew size to be reduced by two thirds compared to the older ships of the same size class that China is no longer building.

Twenty ships in total are currently planned.
