Well, California needs more money to dispense as political favors, so this one doesn't surprise me.
As for Syria, I'm beginning to have doubts about this being a non-crisis war. For all the claims in the past about Iraq, Syria is proving to be a lot worse than I ever imagined it was going to get. I had a previous hypothesis that the Hama massacre was the awakening climax and this is the war resulting a generation later and I'm beginning to go back to that. Currently, I'm around 80 percent convinced that you're correct about this being a non-crisis war, but if chemical weapons are indeed being used now, I may start thinking of this as a crisis war.
And if it's true, I doubt we're going to do anything but condemn and shake our fingers at Assad.
