Sincere.Guest wrote: Fri Jan 01, 2021 12:30 amYou just proved eveyone's point but your own. The hypocrisy that pours out of you is beyond belief. This makes me wonder if your posts are sincere or are you just trolling us?
A few things to consider:
1) The "rural folk" grow food and raise livstock: they feed you urban types.
2) The cities have already become ungovernable. Crime is already out of control and it is getting worse by the day.
3) The blue states and the cities are bankrupt and with the top 10% largely fleeing to red states, the tax base has already collapsded or is about to. The makers are fleeing; only the takers remain in hellholes like NYC, Chicago, SF, and LA. The outflux of high earners is being replaced by an influx illegals and others dependent on welfare and the disappearing American taxpayer.
4) the US dollar is heading for implosion which means plenty of cash for takers, but no real speanding power.
America is heading for catastrophe. You will get your socialist utopia and all the hell that goes with it.
I do believe the cavalier, southern, rural, racist, tribal, red half of America has contributed significantly. They provide a solid military element as well as food. In fighting for small government, low taxes, a strong military and fighting corruption they have contributed heavily.
But they have to disassociate themselves from the elite, the racists and Trump’s recent authoritarian bent.
You should know how crises go. It occurs to me in other turning sites there is an awareness that the trigger is past, that the federal regeneracy starts Jan 20th, and we will soon be into the crisis heart proper. The crisis mentality of solving the greatest problems facing the country dominate. The old values fade. I am used to a discussion on other sites on when the problems will be consider solved, efforts are made to make sure the crisis never happens again, and the country shifts into a high that crushes the old thinking. You have a chance to divorce yourself from the elitist, racist, autocratic taint. Until you do, the conservatives are apt to remain submerged.
Again, 3,000,000 Japanese people died in World War II. It wouldn’t shock me if the conservatives of this crisis ignored a similar number of deaths, a similar amount of destruction, before being willing to rethink their values. A lot of people have died of COVID. A lot of people marched in the BLM protests. There has been a little violence. The cities remain quite livable in. There has been nowhere near enough violence to expect it to drive a cultural change.
But it seems the people here will focus on the violence rather than recognize what is really going on.
Which is sorta fine with me. If you keep focused on imaginary stuff, the blue can hold our crisis in peace.

One of my hobbies is fantasy role playing. For many decades I have created exclusively female point of view characters. It is just that my original male characters were square jawed, brave, stalwart, aggressive copies of one another. In order to get away from that stereotype, I started running females. It just made it easier to stay in a unique character. It became a habit.
But I keep my gaming habits and non gaming reality separate. You are apt to encounter a pure male.

Today's PBS Newshour about Biden and Trump:
"Trump refused to explain why he went from Mar a Lago to the White House for New Years, one day early..." (whut? he has to 'splain?) - video shows Donald and Melania walking across the WH lawn.
"Biden spent New Years privately..." (he hidin' in his basement, Sundowner syndrome, having a down dementia day) - no video
We. Are. Fu**ed.

Bob is either the World's Greatest Troll LARPing as a delusional lefty, or he is a true believer. I tend to think the latter. All the talk about: "us smart, reasonable people" vs "you Neanderthal cretins.." really sums up how they think. Any time a liberal talks abut "conversations" it always excludes people they disagree with.Bob Butler wrote: Fri Jan 01, 2021 1:32 amOne of my hobbies is fantasy role playing. Anyone who thinks big cities are in any way livable, especially after 2020 is delusional. Anyone who can is fleeing, whether left or right, they're running away from cities and high-tax states. Anecdote: One wide-eyed liberal co-worker got a job with Google and moved to the Cali Bay Area. In a year after seeing the hellish nightmare dystopia, they fled back to their home state, running from the California nightmare. The area they moved to was my old 'hood, and I MEAN 'HOOD. I told them it was a ghetto and I know because that's where I grew up, but they ignored me and believed Late Nite TV instead. They fled in fear and terror in less than a year.

I have liberal "BLM is not the problem, Trump is" family. They are wealthy and own a beautiful house on a beautiful street and drive a beautiful car. And then BLM burned downtown down. Now they complain that the city is a shithole and that "something has to be done" without even attempting to explain what they think should be done. They have ALL left the city and now live overseas. The city: Portland, Oregon.A lot of people marched in the BLM protests. There has been a little violence. The cities remain quite livable in. There has been nowhere near enough violence to expect it to drive a cultural change.
A friend of mine has been staying with a friend who also lives in Portland at least once every other year for a couple of weeks each visit and LOVED Portland, but as she told me over lunch two weeks ago," Portland is only interesting because of the beautiful downtown. The downtown has been destroyed. Everything is bombed out and the businesses are closed. There is nothing to do in the residential neighborhoods. Nothing! Portland is dead. My friend is going to move to a new city, but all of the cities she has considered moving to have been gutted in the riots and are now dangerous. She is considering moving to Europe." (Good luck with that. Aren't these places all locked down until April?)
The coastal cities plus Chicago are over. BLM destroyed them. Now crime is spiralling out of control. It isn't safe to walk down the street in broad daylight.
This is what South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Central America are like. Welcome to thug life.
My family has the money and homes abroad to escape. They complain about Trump from the safety of foreign homes, but what about everyone else?
Leftists never offer real solutions; they just want free money and houses and jobs that don't require any skills, qualifications, or real work. They are parasites who talk about nothing. America is dead.
Rich liberals just buy second passports and foreign homes (or move to gated communities in Hawaii) and escape the hell that is America in 2020-2021 that they helped to create. Do you have a second passport and house in Iceland? I guess the BLM thugs will kill you (slowly)...
The Titanic is 2/3 under and one of the smoke stacks just fell over and crushed a lot of people. The screams are growing louder. Do you have a life boat?

I knew it. You write in an effeminate way. The smugness comes right through. So many rural folk know little about the urban experience. I can only honestly report what I and my other blue friends feel. If you want to believe in an idea that is obviously false, I can't stop you. I can only hope that Biden listens to the people, the bad cops loose their immunities, the protests stop, and with it the violence.

I am a retired software engineer. One sister is a retired schoolteacher with a masters in early childhood education. The other is a retired nurse. My father was a Bell System foreman with no advanced degree but who stayed employed with New England Telephone for years. My sisters and I do complain of Trump from the safety of our homes. But, other than that your description just does not apply to me, my family, or most other blues I know. As I said, from a blue state in the northeast, the fires, hurricanes, protests doesn't much touch me. COVID is a problem with how the Republican administration ignores problems and their followers ignore precautions, but the solution is coming available.
Biden is putting together a typical crisis administration and making plans. The do nothing conservative unraveling is ending. The trial and error crisis heart is about to start. I wouldn't panic. Trump is about gone. Enough people have had enough of conservative 'leadership'. The problem is unlikely to arise again.
I have not moved. My family has not moved. None of my blue friends have moved. They have had no cause to. I have not encountered the looters, Boogaloo Bois, Proud boys, secret police, Wolverine Watchmen, the military or anything else.Guest wrote: Fri Jan 01, 2021 6:27 amRich liberals just buy second passports and foreign homes (or move to gated communities in Hawaii) and escape the hell that is America in 2020-2021 that they helped to create. I wish I could say I hadn't encountered any bad cops. I have. In spades. But they were more the support drug and prostitution flavor of bad cops than the shoot the minority flavor. I have learned that money buys justice, and slightly more money can buy injustice. Still, the opposition was surprised that they weren't picking up easy money from a poor working family, but up against a retired engineer who could easily keep the family afloat and lawyered up. Whoops. The bad cops have been fired, and the bad lawyer in huge legal trouble. Justice is slow. It is even slower with the government shutdown and COVID crippling the court system. The incompetance of the conservative administration is a pain. Only criminal cases have been heard heard until lately, but they are learning to use the internet to hold distributed hearings. Things are plodding along satisfactorily.
I had one, but my mother gave it away. It was a 12 foot Starcraft which we called the Starcraft Enterprise in my youth. It supported three and four horsepower outboards in its time. My property has two fire escapes leading down to the water. The boat had been sitting high and dry for about a decade, so my mother gave it to another family across the street on the other lake. Meanwhile, I can report that my hill isn't sinking.
I can agree that the conservative unraveling administration of the last few years has left a grand mess. We'll see what the crisis progressive people can do.
